Why Shar Pei Is So Wrinkled?
A research was done by the “Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona” (UAB), they are a group of scientists that discovered why Shar Pei is so wrinkled? they found out the origin of mucinosis which is dermal mucinosis, a kind of clinical and histologic category of a diseases that is present in the breed.
They found out that this is a form of hereditary health disorder, which is responsible for the wrinkles of this breed. The study was done by scientists Lluís Ferrer, Giordana Zanna, Dolors Fondevila, Maria José Docampo and Anna Bassols of the UAB’s Department of Animal Medicine and Surgery and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and their reports appeared in their journal called Veterinary Dermatology and Journal of Heredity.
It says that the Hyaluronic acid which is one of the major components found between the tissue cells is having an excess production that gathers under the skin which makes the Shar Pei wrinkled, which is a disease.
No simple application of any top wrinkle cream can cure this disease but instead according to researches, the only solution to this health disorder in Shar Pei is that breeders should redesign their breeding program.
