Some Helpful Tips When Running with your Dog

Posted on February 20, 2010 by admin

I rant awhile ago that running with your dog is IN nowadays but I would like to expound on that; I want to suggest some helpful tips when running with your dog;

1. Run with your dogs and not with puppies, wait for them to mature for their bones also to mature. Small breeds can go running 6 months up while large breeds need a year to mature.

2. Do not run with OLD dogs, old dogs are any large dog from 7 years old above and 10 years old for small breed.

3. Give him dog pads to avoid injury and to detect if they over ran or not, start slow and if bleeding, tenderness and raw spot occur let him take a leave off from running.

4. Water! Water! Water! you know what I mean.

5. Run on trails and shaded area, trails are softer and it wont hurt your dog’s joints a lot.

6. Even if your dog is well trained, run with them on leased.

7. Do not run forever, just be cautious enough about your dog condition. Dog might get heat related cases such as vomiting, panting, weak, uncontrolled movement, foaming etc when is suffering to over fatigue. When you are just starting, start at the lowest and improve as you go on.

I am sure that running with your dogs are the best weight loss exercise program that you could ever had, aside from it being a free and at the same time giving your dog the quality time he deserves.
